To participate in Virginia Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, eligible hospitals must have a Medicaid patient volume of 10 percent. All children’s hospitals are eligible (no requirements for Medicaid patient volume). Unlike individual providers or practices, eligible hospitals can participate in both the Medicaid and Medicare EHR incentive programs.
Eligible hospitals qualify for incentive payments if they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology during the first participation year or successfully demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology in subsequent years.
Calculating incentive payments for hospitals depends on several factors, beginning with a base payment of $2 million.
